The 25th of August is a very special holiday here in Uruguay! Uruguay was declared independent on August 25th 1825 from Brazil. Since this day is a national holiday, the Night of Nostalgia was born, taking place the night before.
This festivity started in August of 1978 and has become more and more popular throughout the years.“Noche de la Nostalgia” is celebrated all night long as people of all ages gather with their friends and reminisce about their younger years and fond memories.
There are many parties held in night clubs as well as homes and are attended by huge amounts of people and they dance along to music from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.Many people travel from the inland part of the country to the capital to the dance the night away to oldies with their closest friends. In fact, this is the day of the year where the most amount of people go out, beating the end of year holidays. This is a special night for everyone – that is why it is still around today!
